  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4, with up to 1:5 for lower-acuity assignments
  • Patient Population: Neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Holidays as scheduled
  • Floating: Within specialty and to the ED border as needed
  • On-Call: No scheduled on-call requirement

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

  • Active Maryland or Compact Registered Nurse license at the time of submission
  • At least 3 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience
  • Travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers may be considered with 5 or more years of relevant experience
  • Level II trauma experience required; Level I trauma experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications through the American Heart Association
  • Current CPI, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications
  • Strong clinical judgment and the ability to remain calm and effective in high-acuity emergency situations
  • Flu vaccination required

Travel Emergency Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care for patients of all ages and acuity levels
  • Perform triage, focused assessments, reassessments, and timely escalation of changes in patient condition
  • Care for patients experiencing chest pain, stroke, sepsis, cardiac arrest, trauma, respiratory illness, respiratory arrest, behavioral health emergencies, and other acute conditions
  • Administer emergency medications, blood products, IV therapies, and sedation in accordance with established protocols
  • Manage patients requiring ventilatory support, BiPAP/CPAP, central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, vasopressors, and continuous sedation
  • Assist with trauma response, airway management, intubation, cardiac arrest care, and other emergency procedures
  • Use specialized equipment such as rapid infusers, mechanical CPR devices, trauma infusion equipment, and neonatal warming equipment
  • Recognize and respond to medical, surgical, neurological, psychiatric, pediatric, and multisystem emergencies
  • Document accurately in Epic and communicate effectively with providers, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Float within the specialty as needed and contribute to a collaborative, patient-centered care environment
