Emergency Room Travel Nurse Job Details

  • Department Volume: Approximately 130 patient visits per day across a 47-room Emergency Department
  • Charting: Epic experience preferred
  • Floating: May be required within specialty scope

Emergency Room Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland or a valid Compact RN license
  • At least 2 years of Emergency Department experience preferred; candidates with at least 1 year of strong ER experience may be considered
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI certifications
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications must be issued by the American Heart Association
  • Strong clinical skills in emergency assessment, triage, dysrhythmia recognition, IV therapy, emergency medications, and care of patients with complex diagnoses
  • Ability to care for patients across the lifespan, including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
  • First-time travel nurses may be considered with strong Emergency Department experience
  • Ability to work nights, every other weekend, and scheduled holidays

Emergency Department Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, efficient, and compassionate nursing care to patients presenting with emergent and complex conditions
  • Perform rapid assessments, prioritize care, and support Emergency Department triage processes
  • Care for patients with medical, traumatic, behavioral health, pediatric, and critical-care needs
  • Manage patients requiring ventilatory support, BiPAP/CPAP, IV vasopressors, continuous sedation, procedural sedation, and emergency medications
  • Perform and monitor central line care, chest tube management, blood product administration, phlebotomy, IV insertion, and 12-lead EKGs
  • Recognize and respond to stroke, STEMI, dysrhythmias, seizures, overdose, respiratory compromise, trauma, and other time-sensitive emergencies
  • Support the care of patients requiring intubation, isolation precautions, splinting, spinal precautions, and management of violent or suicidal behavior
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary partners
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record
  • Float within the Emergency Room specialty scope as needed and contribute to a collaborative, patient-focused team environment
