Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring at least 2 years of CVICU experience and proficiency with advanced hemodynamic support devices.

Details

  • Level 1 trauma acute care hospital setting in a 20-bed, all-private, all-monitored Adult Cardiac ICU
  • Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients (CABG, valves, dissections, AAA), TAVRs, STEMI, unstable angina, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, and severe heart failure requiring ICU-level care
  • Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 2:1 depending on acuity
  • Utilizes IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external and transvenous pacemakers, and CRRT
  • Manages PICC, midline, CVC, Swan, and arterial (radial/femoral) lines
  • Titrates multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
  • Utilizes ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, and nitric oxide
  • Philips telemetry monitoring with expectation that RNs read and interpret their own strips
  • EPIC EMR used
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
  • Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday for night shift)
  • Every other holiday required
  • Floating to every level of care required, with travelers expected to take a full team assignment

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS (AHA) certification required
  • ACLS preferred, CCRN a plus
  • Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU experience required
  • Must be able to interpret cardiac strips and titrate multiple drips independently
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment required
  • Must be able to perform without additional training on unit-specific equipment and patient population

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to a complex cardiovascular ICU population, including ventilated and post-procedural patients
  • Charge nurses and house supervisors are available 24/7, with charge nurses occasionally taking patient assignments
  • Respiratory therapists are present in the unit 24/7
  • CV APNs/PAs and CCS APNs/PAs are available most of the time, with providers on call otherwise
  • PCTs support the unit with ratios ranging from 1:12 to 1:15
  • No self-scheduling or block scheduling available for travelers
  • No specific scrub color required, but appropriate and clean attire is expected; scrubs are not provided
  • Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for local rates
  • COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
