Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring at least 2 years of CVICU experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

  • Level 1 trauma acute care hospital setting in the Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
  • 20-bed unit, all private rooms with continuous cardiac monitoring
  • Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 2:1 depending on acuity
  • Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients (CABG, valve repairs, dissections, AAA, vascular procedures, carotids), STEMI, unstable angina, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, TAVRs, and ventilated ICU overflow patients
  • Utilizes specialty equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT
  • Manages various lines including PICC, midlines, CVC, Swans, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
  • RNs are required to titrate multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, and insulin
  • Charge nurses and house supervisors available 24/7, with charge nurses occasionally taking patient assignments
  • Respiratory therapists available 24/7 supporting ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, high flow, and nitric oxide therapy
  • All patients monitored via Philips telemetry with monitor techs available, though RNs are expected to independently interpret strips
  • EPIC EMR used for charting
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
  • Requires working every other weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) and every other holiday
  • Floating required to all levels of care, with travelers expected to take a full patient assignment

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS certification (AHA) required; ACLS preferred; CCRN a plus
  • Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU experience required
  • Strong strip interpretation and critical thinking skills required
  • Must be able to independently manage complex cardiovascular equipment and patient population without additional training
  • Strong assessment, communication, organization, and time management skills required
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for post-cardiac surgical and critical cardiovascular ICU patients
  • Manage multiple concurrent specialty interventions such as IABPs, temporary pacemakers, and ventilator support
  • No particular scrub color required, but attire must be professional and appropriate; scrubs not provided
  • No self-scheduling or block scheduling available for travelers
  • Local candidates accepted with local rate available for those within 50 miles of the facility
  • COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
