Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring at least 2 years of CVICU experience and proficiency with advanced hemodynamic support devices.

Details

  • Acute care Level 1 trauma hospital setting in a 20-bed, all-private, all-monitored Adult Cardiac ICU
  • Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients (CABG, valves, dissections, AAA, vascular procedures, carotids), STEMI, unstable angina, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, TAVRs, and ventilated ICU overflow patients
  • Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 2:1 depending on acuity
  • Utilizes specialty equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external and transvenous pacemakers, and CRRT
  • Manages various lines including PICC, midlines, CVC, Swans, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
  • RNs titrate multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epi, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
  • EPIC EMR used
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
  • Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday for night shift)
  • Every other holiday required
  • Floating required to every level of care, taking a full patient team
  • Charge nurses and house supervisors available 24/7
  • PCTs on unit with ratios of 1:12-1:15 or more depending on staffing
  • CV APNs/PAs and CCS APNs/PAs available most of the time, with providers on call
  • Respiratory therapists available 24/7, utilizing ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, and nitric oxide
  • All patients on Philips cardiac monitoring with monitor techs available

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS (AHA) certification required
  • ACLS certification preferred; CCRN a plus
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
  • Must be able to interpret cardiac strips and rhythms independently
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, organization, and time management skills required
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment and take a full patient assignment immediately without additional training

Additional Information

  • Provide direct care for complex cardiovascular ICU patients including those requiring temporary pacing, IABP support, and multiple concurrent titrated drips
  • Expected to independently manage swans, CVC, and arterial lines used on the majority of patients
  • No particular scrub color required, but attire must be clean and professionally appropriate; scrubs not provided
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for local rates
