Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Wausau, Wisconsin

Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,220–$2,340
- Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Start Date: October 19, 2026
- Schedule: 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour variable day or night shifts, typically 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
- Weekend and Holiday Rotation: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- Unit: Medical-surgical intermediate care/cardiac stepdown and progressive care
- Float Expectations: May float to inpatient units, including higher-acuity areas, as needed
- Charting: EPIC experience preferred
Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements
- Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
- At least 2 years of recent Stepdown, Intermediate Care, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), or cardiac stepdown nursing experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Demonstrated ventilator and tracheostomy care experience
- Ability to care for patients requiring telemetry monitoring and complex medical-surgical interventions
- Associate degree or nursing certificate required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- ICU experience and Level II trauma experience preferred
- Ability to work independently, manage changing priorities, and thrive in a high-acuity healthcare environment
Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for cardiac stepdown, progressive care, and medical-surgical intermediate-care patients
- Monitor telemetry and recognize changes in cardiac and clinical status
- Care for patients with sepsis, trauma, gastrointestinal bleeding, stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, chest tubes, colostomies, and ileostomies
- Manage patients receiving insulin infusions and those requiring ventilator or tracheostomy support
- Complete assessments, administer medications, perform treatments, and document care accurately in EPIC
- Prioritize care for an approximately 4:1 patient assignment while maintaining safety and quality standards
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, rehabilitation staff, and interdisciplinary care teams
- Float to other inpatient units as needed and adapt quickly to varying patient acuity
- Participate in required weekend and holiday rotations
- Promote a supportive, efficient, and patient-centered care environment
