What You'll Do

This role offers hands-on troubleshooting, travel, and the opportunity to work on specialized heavy haul transportation equipment that few mechanics ever experience. In this role, you will:

• Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on hydraulic trailers, multi-axle trailer systems, and specialized heavy haul equipment
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems
• Diagnose issues with steering systems, suspension systems, braking systems, and hydraulic components
• Respond to equipment breakdowns in the field and support active heavy haul transportation projects
• Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections to maximize equipment reliability
• Assist with trailer assembly, configuration, and mobilization for oversized and super load transports
• Utilize tablets, maintenance software, and service documentation to track repairs and equipment history
• Travel extensively throughout North America supporting the Heavy Haul Group and customer projects

What You Bring

We're looking for mechanics who are hands-on, dependable, and thrive in challenging field environments.

Required:

• 3-5+ years of experience maintaining trailers, heavy equipment, diesel equipment, or hydraulic systems
• Strong mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting skills
• Experience diagnosing and repairing electrical systems
• Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics
• Mechanically inclined with a strong problem-solving mindset
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively in an over-the-road (OTR) role
• Ability to work independently while supporting a team-oriented operation
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record

Preferred:

• Experience with hydraulic platform trailers, dual-lane trailers, or multi-axle transport systems
• Experience supporting heavy haul, specialized transportation, or oversize load operations
• CDL Class A license
• Welding and fabrication experience
• Knowledge of axle alignments, steering systems, suspension systems, and load securement equipment
• Experience with hydraulic power units and trailer steering systems

Additional Expectations:

• Ability to work day/night shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Ability to travel extensively throughout North America
• Willingness to respond to field service calls and equipment breakdowns
• Commitment to safety, quality, and customer service

Work Environment

• Full-time OTR position supporting Barnhart's Heavy Haul Group
• Significant travel throughout North America
• Combination of field service work, customer job sites, and shop support
