    Public Accounting Firm | San Francisco, CA | Hybrid/Remote (but within the Bay Area)


    A nationally established public accounting and advisory firm is seeking a Tax Manager to join its San Francisco office. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base while leading engagements and mentoring developing professionals within a collaborative team environment.


    The Tax Manager will play a key role in managing client relationships, reviewing complex tax work, and providing technical guidance across a range of engagements.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and manage multiple tax engagements from planning through completion
    • Review complex federal and state tax returns for corporations, partnerships, and high-net-worth individuals
    • Perform technical tax research and develop practical solutions to client issues
    • Identify potential tax risks and planning opportunities and discuss findings with senior leadership
    • Review workpapers and documentation to ensure compliance with professional standards
    • Serve as primary client contact for engagement-related matters
    • Coordinate workflow, delegate assignments, and monitor deadlines
    • Provide mentorship, training, and performance feedback to tax seniors and staff
    • Communicate engagement status, technical matters, and client developments to firm leadership
    • Stay current on tax law changes and evaluate impact on client engagements
    • Participate in client development and relationship-building efforts


    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
    • Approximately 6+ years of public accounting experience
    • Active CPA license required or Enrolled Agent
    • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or team leadership experience
    • Experience reviewing complex tax returns and managing client engagements
    • Strong technical research and analytical skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficiency with modern tax software and engagement management platforms
    • Willingness to travel occasionally based on client needs


    Preferred:

    • Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting
    • Experience working with middle-market clients
    • Exposure to multi-state and complex tax structures


    Compensation & Benefits

    • Base salary range: $135K-$175K
    • This compensation range is a good faith estimate of the expected wage range you can expect to be paid upon hire
