Position OverviewSeeking an Engineer in Training (EIT) to support geotechnical engineering services and construction materials testing projects throughout Central Virginia. This position works closely with licensed professional engineers, project managers, and field technicians on both public and private sector projects. The EIT role is designed for a motivated early-career engineer who wants hands-on exposure to field operations, laboratory testing, engineering analysis, report preparation, and client coordination while progressing toward Professional Engineer licensure.
Responsibilities- Support geotechnical engineering investigations including subsurface explorations and soil evaluations
- Perform and observe field testing for soils, concrete, and masonry
- Assist with special inspections and third-party inspection services
- Review field reports, test data, and laboratory results for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical memoranda, and draft reports under PE supervision
- Coordinate with field technicians, laboratory staff, project managers, and clients
- Assist with project scheduling, documentation, and quality control
- Comply with company procedures, safety requirements, and professional standards
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Engineer In Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe
- Entry-level to three years of relevant engineering or construction-related experience
- Valid driver’s license with a positive driving record
- Ability to perform field work and lift materials up to 50 pounds as needed
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications- Prior experience in geotechnical engineering or construction materials testing
- Familiarity with laboratory and field testing procedures
- Exposure to construction plans, specifications, and technical reports
- Experience working on active construction sites
