Dean's Professional Services is seeking a detail-oriented Research Assistant I to support the Bionutrition Research Core (BRC) at a leading cancer research hospital in Houston, TX.
This unique part-time opportunity supports dietary clinical trials in cancer care and nutrition research. The Research Assistant will prepare research-designated meals under the supervision of senior research dietitians while following strict study protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs). This position is ideal for someone interested in clinical nutrition research, healthcare, food science, or research dietetics.
Prepare research-designated meals and diets according to dietitian-developed clinical study protocols.
Accurately measure food ingredients using electronic balances, kitchen scales, and other food preparation equipment.
Follow detailed research protocols and SOPs to maintain accuracy, consistency, and quality control.
Perform food preparation, measuring, weighing, vacuum sealing, labeling, and packaging according to study requirements.
Safely package research meals for shipping or courier delivery.
Maintain sanitary food preparation practices and a clean, organized work environment.
Document food preparation activities, production schedules, and quality assurance processes.
Assist with inventory management and ordering food and research supplies.
Use Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel for communication, documentation, and research-related tasks.
Collaborate with registered dietitians and interdisciplinary research staff.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Basic Science, Nutrition, or a related field.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise research protocols.
Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary research teams.
Ability to perform hands-on food preparation in a controlled research environment.
Ability to accurately prepare food according to specific gram weights, dietary restrictions, and clinical study requirements.
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform active food preparation tasks.
Experience in clinical research, hospital environments, or food service operations preferred.
Familiarity with food safety practices and research protocol standards preferred.
Experience with vacuum sealing, food packaging, or inventory management preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, preferred.
