Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

 

The Recovery Litigation Assistant performs administrative functions for the collection of unpaid charged-off loans. This role minimizes loss and increases net recoveries by determining the best actions to protect Suncoast Credit Union assets. An ideal candidate is an experienced collections professional with a calming demeanor.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Review correspondence received for charge-off accounts and pleadings filed by members with Suncoast Credit Union named as the creditor
  • Determine appropriate action to protect the interest of the credit union
  • Implement compliance guidelines when referring accounts for litigation, replevin, suit on mortgage notes, or to third-party collection agencies
  • Prepare required documentation for referrals
  • Attend in-person or virtual trials, mediations, hearings, and meetings when a credit union representative is required to provide testimony or obtain information to assist with the discovery process
  • Negotiate payment arrangements, settlements, and satisfaction of judgments within credit union policy
  • Perform right of offset on depository accounts and apply the funds to charged-off loans
  • Post payments to charged-off loans
  • Assist the Recovery Supervisor with the analysis of the recovery portfolio
  • Plan, evaluate, and monitor charged-off accounts for assignment or reassignment to third-party collection agencies
  • Monitor, update, and verify status of recovery accounts
  • Maintain consistent communication with collection agencies, attorneys, vendors, and members
  • Update attorney disbursement reports for third-party agency on a monthly basis
  • Maintain vendor and internal collection systems specific to the Recovery Area
  • Utilize information obtained from credit reporting, skip tracing services, and software to recover collateral or funds
  • Attend educational events to increase professional knowledge and remain current with compliance guidelines
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience with the recovery of first or second-party collections
  • Experience with legal and court processes
  • Good knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job responsibilities, including Florida repossession laws and procedures, litigation and judicial procedures, Debtor/Creditor Collection Law, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and Florida statutes pertaining to the collection of consumer debts
  • Good knowledge and understanding of credit union products, services, policies, and procedures, including Member Solutions policies, the Collection Code of Ethics, and accounting procedures
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities to meet deadlines
  • Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task management
  • Ability to analyze and resolve routine problems or situations requiring minor adjustments to working methods
  • Proficient written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators
  • Ability to communicate information requiring explanation or interpretation
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
