Advertised Job Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) Program at the University of South Carolina Floyd School of Medicine invites applications for the Principal Faculty/Clinical Assistant Professor position. This is a full-time, 12-month, on-site faculty position. Reporting to the Program Director and collaborating with the PA Program faculty, the successful candidate will contribute to the PA Programs academic, administrative, and accreditation-related functions. The standard work schedule includes four days per week for program responsibilities and one day per week for maintaining clinical practice at a clinical site of their choosing.

  • The Principal Faculty member is responsible for providing high-quality didactic instruction, participating in curriculum development and assessment, advising and mentoring students, and supporting continuous program improvement in accordance with the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) Standards.
  • In accordance with ARC-PA Standards, Principal Faculty are responsible for contributing to the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the PA curriculum and program.
  • Responsibilities include teaching and assessing students, academic advising and mentoring, participating in the admissions process, supporting student success through remediation as needed, and engaging in ongoing program assessment, accreditation, and quality improvement activities.
  • Additional responsibilities may include committee service, scholarly activity, interprofessional education initiatives, student recruitment, and other duties that support the mission of the PA Program, the School of Medicine, and the University.

Required Education and Experience

  • Terminal medical degree as a Physician Assistant, Medical Doctor (MD), or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Current board certification (as applicable to profession).Eligible for licensure in the State of South Carolina.
  • Demonstrated record of clinical practice and professional excellence.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, student success, and collaborative academic environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous teaching experience in a Physician Assistant or other health professions education program.
  • Experience with ARC-PA accreditation processes, self-study preparation, site visits, and ongoing accreditation compliance.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical practice experience.
  • Experience with curriculum development, student assessment, and program evaluation.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
