Job Summary:
The Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) represents the face of the organization to patients seeking routine health testing or important diagnostic insights. This role is responsible for collecting high-quality blood samples, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and ensuring patients feel comfortable and confident throughout the collection process. The PSR II maintains a strong focus on patient confidentiality, specimen accuracy, and process excellence while supporting efficient clinical operations.
The Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) represents the face of the organization to patients seeking routine health testing or important diagnostic insights. This role is responsible for collecting high-quality blood samples, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and ensuring patients feel comfortable and confident throughout the collection process. The PSR II maintains a strong focus on patient confidentiality, specimen accuracy, and process excellence while supporting efficient clinical operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily activities accurately and on time under the direction of the area supervisor.
- Maintain a safe and professional environment for patients and staff.
- Draw blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory testing following established practices and procedures.
- Perform both forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties.
- Verify patient demographic information and obtain patient initials/signature post-venipuncture to confirm proper specimen labeling.
- Maintain required records and documentation for specimen collection and patient information.
- Promote a positive organizational image to patients, clients, employees, and the public.
- Support specimen collection activities in patient service centers, physician offices, or other assigned locations as business needs dictate.
Required Experience:
- Three years of phlebotomy experience including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
- Experience working in fast-paced healthcare or laboratory environments.
Nice-to-Have Experience:
- Minimum two years of experience working in a Patient Service Center environment.
- Customer service experience in retail or service environments.
- Experience supporting specimen collection across multiple clinical locations.
Required Skills:
- Strong phlebotomy and specimen collection skills.
- Ability to provide accurate, error-free work in fast-paced environments.
- Keyboard and data entry proficiency.
Preferred Skills:
- Pediatric and geriatric blood draw experience.
- Strong patient communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, and overtime if needed.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and follow established procedures.
Additional Skills:
- Clinical and forensic specimen collection procedures.
- Patient demographic verification and specimen labeling validation.
- Compliance with company policies, dress code, and safety standards.
- Ability to travel between Patient Service Center or in-office phlebotomy locations if required.
- Strong attention to detail in specimen handling and documentation.
