General Function

A Peer Mentor in will serve to engage, support and encourage a cohort of students who are in pursuit of academic credentials and careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) area. The Peer Mentors primary function is to assist students with connecting to college resources and appropriate staff to increase success.

Central Piedmont is currently seeking a PT Peer Mentor position in the Math & Sciences Division. Honey Well STEM Academy (Grant).

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintains regular contact with student cohort.

  2. Attends and participates in all workshops and group meetings.

  3. Educates students about college resources and student services staff.

  4. Coordinates individual or group sessions to share social and educational programs.

  5. Meets individually with mentees to identify challenges and barriers to student success.

  6. Works with other Peer Mentors to collaborate on best practices.

  7. Serves as a positive social and academic role model.

  8. Keeps accurate records of individual and group interactions with program participants.

  9. Attends peer mentor training sessions.

  10. Maintains satisfactory academic progress.

  11. Meets regularly with supervisor to provide update on students.

  12. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED

Successful completion of 12 or more credit hours of college-level course work
