Job Details

Supports attorneys in managing a heavy litigation docket and coordinates related office activities. Requires knowledge of legal, secretarial, and office practices, and comfort working with litigation pleadings and discovery. Reports to the HR manager.

Responsibilities

Calendar deadlines and court dates; file and serve documents in state and federal courts
Prepare, edit, and format pleadings, summonses, complaints, motions, subpoenas, and legal correspondence
Open new matters and organize and maintain electronic litigation files
Manage assigned attorneys' calendars, including travel, depositions, hearings, and trial dates
Assist attorneys with preparing for meetings, hearings, and trials
Process expense reports, reimbursements, and check requests
Enter attorney time and assist with monthly client billing
Work with attorneys, staff, clients, and vendors to complete daily tasks and build positive working relationships

Qualifications

General knowledge of civil procedure and e-filing in Texas state and federal courts; appellate experience helpful but not required
Accuracy in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
Typing speed of 80+ wpm and strong computer skills, including scanning and e-filing
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Acrobat, and a document management system (e.g., iManage); Best Authority for tables of authorities ideal but not required
Excellent spelling, proofreading, organization, time management, and communication skills
Self-starter who anticipates needs, solves problems, and requires minimal supervision
Occasional early morning, evening, or weekend overtime as needed
