Position Overview
We are seeking a Litigation Associate Attorney to join our busy civil defense practice. The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload of insurance defense and personal injury matters, develop and execute litigation strategy, draft pleadings and motions, conduct discovery and depositions, and represent clients in court when necessary. This role requires strong advocacy skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with partners, insurers, and clients to achieve favorable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload of civil litigation matters with emphasis on insurance defense and personal injury claims.
- Develop and implement litigation strategy, including drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs.
- Conduct fact and legal research and prepare memoranda on complex legal issues.
- Handle all phases of discovery, including preparing and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
- Take and defend depositions; prepare witnesses and coordinate trial testimony.
- Prepare for and appear at hearings, pre-trial conferences, mediations, and trials.
- Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel and insurers, when appropriate, to achieve cost-effective resolutions.
- Communicate regularly with clients, insurance carriers, experts, and co-counsel to manage expectations and case progress.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to paralegals and junior staff, ensuring quality control and adherence to deadlines.
- Maintain accurate case files and meet all court and e-filing requirements while adhering to professional and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Admission to practice in Texas
- 4+ years of civil litigation experience with substantial exposure to insurance defense and personal injury matters.
- Proven courtroom experience, including motion practice, depositions, and trial participation.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience working with insurance carriers and adjusting strategies to client and insurer objectives.
- Ability to manage a heavy caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet strict deadlines.
- Proficiency with court e-filing systems, case management software, and Microsoft Office suite.
- High level of professional integrity and adherence to ethical rules governing the practice of law.
