POSITION SUMMARY

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

A School and Community Outreach Instructor is directly responsible for delivering engaging, accurate, and high-energy informal science education programs to 2nd-grade students throughout the state. They also develop and present environmental programming to students pre-k through adults. They assist in supporting the education staff with all programming and volunteer management and the conservation and special events departments as assigned. This position collaborates with the education team members to improve and present current programs and assist in developing new ones. The instructor works with other education department members as well as individually to deliver educational and conservation content to various groups on Zoo grounds and throughout the state of Utah.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

1. Deliver engaging, high-energy, creative, dynamic, and accurate educational presentations in elementary & secondary schools and on-site field trip presentations that follow the Utah State Core standards. 2. Deliver distance learning programs to classrooms throughout the world. 3. Provide teacher professional development opportunities as scheduled.

4. Respond to student behaviors effectively/appropriately using effective classroom management techniques.

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

5. Safely handle and assist in caring for various animals (mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, and invertebrates) with a comfortable demeanor.

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

6. Prepare, manage and utilize presentation supplies and materials appropriately.

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

7. Support the conservation efforts of Utah's Hogle Zoo through fieldwork opportunities and by presenting Wild Aware Utah talks throughout the state.

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

8. Represent Utah's Hogle Zoo at special events as assigned.

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

9. Deliver educational presentations to guests as needed.

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

10. Assist with creating, executing, and evaluating the Zoo's summer camps as assigned.

11. Assist with Boy and Girl Scout Programs as assigned.

12. Assist with the development and ongoing improvement of Zoo educational programming.

13. Understand, support, and share with others Zoo's mission and vision.

14. Additional duties as assigned by the Academic Programs Supervisor.

16. Extended visits-schedule includes travel and overnight stays in Utah counties, up to 10 trips per year.
