This position has responsibility for the development and administration of population specific education for staff. The educator coordinates, facilitates and/or teaches unit/specialty classes and is responsible to maintain unit education records and oversee staff education files. The educator also acts as a catalyst for change and adapts to change in a positive and professional manner. The educator understands and promotes the organization''s mission, vision, values, and initiatives. They exemplify and role model the Exceptional Patient Experience culture. This position may require the provision of direct patient care. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Develops and administers clinical technologist orientation for defined areas and provides ongoing support as a mentor for existing and newly hired staff.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of education programs and develops new education as appropriate to meet the needs of the department and staff.
  • Provides technologist and technical staff with support in their role as patient and family educators.
  • May function as staff technologist in the labs as patient care needs necessitate.
  • Performs all of the essential functions of the procedural technologist.
  • Maintains strong clinical presence on the unit(s) and clinical competence by working side by side with new staff, preceptors, charge technologists and existing staff to provide patient care.
  • Takes an active role as the lead preceptor for the unit by assigning staff to preceptor roles or directly precepting new staff. Assesses knowledge, skills, and competency of new staff and provides support for unit preceptors. Guides and directs staff preceptors by developing and monitoring training, timelines, goals and expectations for new staff.
  • Assesses ongoing needs of staff. Based on needs, develops and maintains unit clinical competencies, skills and knowledge in collaboration with unit leadership and Clinical Staff Education.
  • Maintains accurate and timely education records.
  • Maintains and models clinical and professional expertise by being conversant with current literature and practice. Develops productive and collegial relationships with other clinicians, educators, quality and leadership.
  • May be required to be available on a rotational call schedule for procedures after normal hours. Participates in on call assignments during non-business hours such as weekends, holidays and after hours.
  • Collaborates with CNC and/or unit management team in performing leadership and operational responsibilities.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in defined areas and department standards.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to speak effectively before groups and/or teach classes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in relevant software applications.
  • Ability to teach and support the instruction of the organization''s electronic medical records and other clinical computer programs.

Qualifications

Required

  • Three (3) years of technical experience, or the equivalency.

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

  • Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Utah.

  • One of the following

  • ARRT Registration as Magnetic Resonance Imaging R.T. (MR) (ARRT).

  • ARRT Registration as a Radiologic Technologist R.T. (R) (ARRT).

  • ARRT Registration for Vascular Interventional Radiography R.T. (VI)(ARRT).

  • ARRT (CI)

  • Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • One (1) year of educator experience.
