Overview:
There’s never been a better time to join the shipbuilding industry. As demand for cutting-edge naval technology grows, General Dynamics Electric Boat is at the forefront—designing, building, and maintaining the most advanced submarines in the world. Our work is mission-critical, supporting the U.S. Navy and strengthening national security.
COLUMBIA Class Build Strategy Teams are seeking highly motivated candidates to join the effort in integrating the COLUMBIA Class design for construction.
The BST is an opportunity for new engineers to learn how areas of the submarine are designed and constructed. The BST is a cross functional team that evaluates and acts upon opportunities for construction schedule and cost improvements in focused areas of the COLUMBIA Class. BST Engineers will have opportunity to grow their network, engaging with the entire cross-functional team, including DBS, Detail Planning, Advance Planning, Operations, Production Control, amongst others. The BST Engineers will also gain experience working in a multitude of EB Business Systems, gaining valuable experience in the Design-Build End to End Process. This effort presents a unique opportunity to execute meaningful changes to the COLUMBIA build sequence in support of the Enterprise and Navy’s needs.
The BST engineer’s primary role is to develop an understanding of how a particular section of the ship is being built and identify deficiencies and potential improvements to the build strategy. The engineer will work closely with the Build Strategy Team Major Area Team Leader (MATL) who is responsible for coordinating efforts within a particular area of the ship
