Job Duties:

  • The Child Support Services County Attorney III is responsible for the preparation of Child Support Cases for Family Court; performance of activities in Court; the follow-up on these cases, including parent locate and processing of interstate cases; and is responsible for providing general child support services to clients as required or needed.
  • Represents out-of-state petitioners in reciprocal support suits and monitors outgoing UIFSA cases.
  • Negotiates complex settlement of Child Support cases with opposing counsel.
  • Prepares and monitors pleadings and preparation of cases for judicial hearings.
  • Responsible for trial of cases and appearance at Court or other judicial hearings.
  • Assists in coordinating at county level interrelationship between CSSD and Family Court personnel.
  • Handles appeals resulting from child support cases.
  • Performs job delivery and/or performance with positive or appropriate customer service delivery to clients, the public, and co-workers as an integral requirement.
  • Ensures that personal identifying information (PII) is properly used, accessed, safeguarding systems, equipment and data.
  • Assists Regional Director and regional case manager supervisors in training new attorneys and case managers. Advises regional case managers in assigned counties.
  • Performs related duties as required, to include Red Cross or emergency shelter duty as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A Juris Doctor Degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney.

Necessary Special Requirement: Must be a member of the SC BAR.

Experience as a DSS Attorney preferred.
