Job Details

Title: Temporary Corporate Counsel (Contract - Leave Coverage)
Engagement Type: Temporary / Contract - not a permanent placement
Assignment Dates: Approximately Mid-October 2026 – February 2027 (~4 months), with possible short extension.

Assignment Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced contract/interim attorney to provide temporary coverage for their Corporate Counsel role while the incumbent is on approved leave. This is a defined-term engagement with an intentionally narrowed scope, focused on day-to-day contract review and lower-risk dispute matters, allowing the placement to ramp quickly without deep institutional handoff on strategic or high-stakes items. The interim counsel will report to the General Counsel and coordinate closely with the legal team on active matters and open files.

Primary Responsibilities

Review, redline, and negotiate routine commercial contracts, including vendor, customer, and partnership agreements.
Respond to and help resolve low-risk legal disputes and claims (e.g., routine client and vendor disputes, minor tenant complaints, standard response letters) in coordination with the General Counsel.
Maintain continuity on in-flight contract matters and disputes handed off at the start of the assignment.
Flag and escalate any higher-risk, high-value, or novel matters to the General Counsel or outside counsel rather than handling independently.
Other related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope and duration of a temporary assignment.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing.
3+ years of related legal experience, including in-house and/or corporate practice; contract review and negotiation experience required.
Experience handling routine dispute response, demand letters, or low-risk claims.
Landlord/tenant and proptech industry experience strongly preferred but not required.
Able to work independently with minimal ramp-up time and manage a moderate, steady caseload.
Strong contract-drafting and redlining skills; comfortable using standard contract management tools.
Clear, professional written and verbal communication; comfortable flagging issues proactively to the General Counsel.
Available for the full assignment window; availability for occasional handoff calls prior to the leave start date is a plus.
