    Description

    We are seeking an experienced Senior Contracts & Claims Manager to provide commercial leadership across major capital projects, including greenfield and brownfield CAPEX programs typically valued at $5M+.

    This role will oversee contract strategy, execution, change management, claims, supplier performance, and commercial risk. Working closely with Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and external contractors, this individual will help optimize project value, manage contractual risk, and support successful delivery of projects on cost, schedule, and quality.

    Key Responsibilities

    Contract Strategy & Execution

    • Develop and execute contracting strategies and risk mitigation plans for major CAPEX projects.
    • Review and negotiate major contracts, subcontracts, tenders, and commercial agreements.
    • Lead contract execution to protect contractual rights, manage obligations, and minimize commercial risk.
    • Monitor contract performance, cost controls, payment terms, guarantees, and project commercial requirements.
    • Manage contract extensions, change orders, variations, and commercial negotiations.
    • Ensure appropriate procurement, contracting, and project governance processes are followed.

    Claims & Change Management

    • Lead the identification, development, negotiation, and resolution of commercial claims.
    • Analyze contractor claims and develop appropriate response and defense strategies.
    • Manage change orders, delays, disputes, and other commercial issues throughout project execution.
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation to support negotiations, arbitration, litigation, or alternative dispute resolution when required.
    • Partner with Legal and other stakeholders on complex contractual matters.

    Commercial & Supplier Management

    • Monitor contractor and supplier performance, compliance, and accountability.
    • Lead commercial escalations and support resolution of supplier issues.
    • Manage warranty and performance guarantees for project assets.
    • Support supplier audits, performance reviews, and commercial scorecards.
    • Identify opportunities to reduce total cost of ownership and improve project value.

    Stakeholder Management

    • Partner closely with Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and external contractors.
    • Provide commercial guidance to project teams and ensure alignment across stakeholders.
    • Communicate project commercial risks, contract status, claims, and variations to leadership.
    • Provide senior-level commercial expertise throughout project execution and closeout.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • 10+ years of relevant experience in contracts, commercial management, claims, procurement, or project management.
    • Demonstrated experience managing major CAPEX/construction projects, ideally $5M+ in value.
    • Strong experience with contract strategy, change management, cost management, claims, variations, and dispute resolution.
    • Experience working with or managing EPC/EPCMV contractors strongly preferred.
    • Background in construction, engineering, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, manufacturing, or another regulated industry preferred.
    • Strong understanding of construction practices, project sequencing, and commercial implications of project execution.
    • Proven negotiation skills with the ability to manage complex commercial issues and influence internal and external stakeholders.
    • Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to identify cost-saving and value-creation opportunities.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
    • Experience managing international commercial contracts and global supplier relationships.
    • Ability to operate effectively in a cross-functional, multinational project environment.
