GENERAL SUMMARY The Construction Litigation Paralegal provides high-level legal and administrative support to attorneys in the Construction and Commercial Litigation practice group. This role supports complex, document-intensive matters involving construction defects, contract disputes, delay claims, payment disputes, mechanics liens, bond claims, abstracts of judgment, and related enforcement proceedings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Case Management and Litigation Support
- Manages construction litigation matters from inception through trial and post-judgment enforcement.
- Drafts and prepares pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, correspondence, and lien-related filings.
- Maintains case calendars and tracks statutory deadlines, including lien perfection, bond claim deadlines, and post-judgment filing deadlines.
- E-files documents in state and federal courts.
Mechanics Liens and Bond Claims
- Prepares, reviews, and files mechanics lien affidavits and related statutory notices in compliance with applicable state requirements.
- Tracks statutory deadlines for notice, filing, service, and foreclosure actions.
- Coordinates filing of lien releases, partial releases, and satisfactions.
- Assists with payment bond claims and bond enforcement proceedings.
- Communicates with clients regarding lien rights, required documentation, and preservation of claims.
- Maintains lien tracking spreadsheets and deadline management systems.
Abstracts of Judgment and Post-Judgment Enforcement
- Prepares and files abstracts of judgment in appropriate counties to perfect judgment liens.
- Coordinates recording with county clerks and confirm proper indexing.
- Monitors expiration and renewal deadlines for judgment liens.
- Prepares writs of execution, writs of garnishment, and turnover-related documents.
- Tracks collections efforts and maintain post-judgment enforcement files.
- Coordinates with constables, sheriffs, and third-party collection vendors as needed.
Discovery and Construction Document Management
- Organizes and analyzes all project documentation (prime contracts and subcontracts, RFIs, schedules and delay analyses, inspection and expert reports, etc.)
- Manages large electronic productions and assists with privilege review.
- Prepares deposition summaries and manage exhibits. Client and Team Coordination
- Serves as liaison between attorneys, clients, experts, vendors, and court personnel.
- Assists with factual investigation and case strategy support.
- Collaborates with litigation support and records teams to ensure seamless document management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Bachelors degree and/or Paralegal certificate preferred.
- Ability to prepare and record lien documents with little supervision.
- 5+ years of litigation experience, preferably in construction litigation.
- Proficiency in e-recording lien and related documents with county clerks using third-party recording platforms.
- Demonstrated experience handling mechanics liens, bond claims, bonds to indemnify, and post-judgment enforcement.
- Strong knowledge of lien deadlines and county recording requirements.
- Knowledge of state and federal court procedures.
- Proficiency in e-discovery platforms and document management systems.
- Advance Microsoft office skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
