Overview
We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to support the Business Analytics and Testing Support Team. This position requires a highly collaborative professional with strong stakeholder management capabilities, advanced business analysis expertise, and the ability to work independently in both Agile and Waterfall environments. The selected candidate will serve as the voice of the customer throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), ensuring business requirements are accurately documented, prioritized, tested, and delivered.

Job Description
The Business Analyst will partner closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, project managers, and product owners to identify operational needs, analyze business processes, and support the successful delivery of technology enhancements. This role will contribute across the full SDLC by gathering and documenting requirements, facilitating Agile ceremonies, supporting testing efforts, and ensuring customer-focused solutions are implemented effectively.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in Agile business analysis, process modeling, backlog management, SQL/data analysis, and user acceptance testing. This individual must possess exceptional communication skills and demonstrate the ability to advocate for customer needs while working across diverse teams and technical environments.

Responsibilities

Business Analysis & Requirements Management

  • Serve as the voice of the customer by collaborating with stakeholders and technical teams to understand business processes, operational challenges, and user needs
  • Gather, analyze, and document business, functional, and technical requirements using customer-centric methodologies
  • Translate business and product strategy requirements into Epics, Features, User Stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Map user stories to technical solution designs to ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Identify process improvements and recommend optimized workflows to support operational efficiency
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis to identify system gaps, deficiencies, and opportunities for resolution

Agile Delivery & Backlog Support

  • Support Agile Scrum teams through backlog grooming, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and requirements clarification
  • Organize and maintain Product and Sprint backlogs based on customer priorities and business value
  • Decompose traditional requirements into Agile-ready deliverables for implementation teams
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to maintain backlog accuracy and delivery readiness

Process Modeling & Documentation

  • Create and maintain process documentation including BPMN 2.0 process flows, context diagrams, and data flow diagrams
  • Produce detailed analysis artifacts and technical documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and alignment throughout the SDLC lifecycle

Data Analysis & Technical Support

  • Perform advanced SQL queries, database profiling, and troubleshooting activities
  • Support data analysis initiatives involving operational data stores, data warehouses, data lakes, and data marts
  • Analyze organizational data structures and management concepts to support customer-driven solutions

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Define test objectives, test plans, test cases, and regression testing scenarios
  • Coordinate and facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with business stakeholders
  • Track testing progress and communicate status updates to Project Managers and Scrum Masters
  • Validate that developed solutions meet business requirements and customer expectations

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams, business sponsors, developers, and leadership stakeholders
  • Communicate complex technical and business concepts clearly to varied audiences
  • Advocate for customer-focused outcomes throughout project execution and delivery

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience delivering business and data analysis artifacts in customer-focused environments
  • Minimum 8 years of experience delivering business and systems analysis artifacts
  • Minimum 8 years of experience translating client and product strategy requirements into application requirements and user stories
  • Minimum 8 years of exceptional written and verbal communication experience working with diverse stakeholders and customers
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an Agile Business Analyst with strong knowledge of Scrum methodologies
  • Minimum 5 years of experience organizing and maintaining Product and Sprint backlogs
  • Minimum 5 years of experience defining acceptance criteria and managing the acceptance process with development teams
  • Minimum 5 years of experience using Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) 2.0
  • Minimum 5 years of advanced SQL experience including complex queries, database profiling, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with software development applications such as Azure DevOps and/or Jira
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint, and Project Server
  • Experience supporting reporting systems, operational data stores, data warehouses, data lakes, and data marts
  • Ability to interview and work onsite in Richmond, Virginia
  • Local Richmond-area candidates only

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP)
  • PMI – Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA)
  • PMI – Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)
  • Experience using Azure DevOps or Jira for Agile software development and work item tracking
  • Experience with automated testing tools such as TestComplete, Cucumber, or Selenium
