The Center for Community Engagement is seeking a dependable, welcoming, and community-minded Pantry Operations Specialist to support the daily operations of the Bear Pantry. This position provides students with an opportunity to develop professional skills while serving fellow students and contributing to a welcoming and accessible campus community.

The Bear Pantry's mission is to empower the Missouri State University community through education, connection, and advocacy. Pantry Operations Specialists serve as an important point of contact for Bear Pantry members, volunteers, donors, and visitors. The position involves customer service, pantry operations, inventory support, volunteer assistance, closing and opening procedures, along with collaboration between student, staff, and university personnel.

  • Greet and assist Bear Pantry members during open hours with professionalism and empathy.
  • Maintain inventory by restocking shelves, labeling products, and ensuring a clean, organized pantry.
  • Assist with tracking inventory data and helping with item categorization.
  • Support donation intake and sorting procedures.
  • Collaborate with student staff, graduate assistants, and other volunteers on projects or events.
  • Uphold confidentiality and dignity in all interactions with patrons.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must be enrolled at Missouri State University. The student must maintain good academic standing (at least 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale), good disciplinary standing, and be a full-time student, enrolled in 3+ credit hours over the summer and enrolled in 6+ hours in the fall and 6+ hours in the previous spring semester.

  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • General computer literacy or willingness to learn.
  • Organization and time management skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Required Certifications

Food Safety Handling certification through Ozarks Food Harvest (OFH) is not required at the time of application. Certification must be obtained after hire, and training will be provided.

  • Interest in community engagement, service, food access, or supporting fellow students is preferred but not required.
