CNC Programming & Customer Support

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: Monday through Friday

Position Overview

A well-established CNC machine tool organization is seeking an Applications Engineer to support customer applications, machine installations, CNC programming, and technical training for Swiss-type CNC equipment.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing position that works directly with customers to ensure their machines and manufacturing processes are set up properly. The Applications Engineer will assist with machine installations, part programming, process development, demonstrations, training, and ongoing technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and operate Swiss-type CNC machines.

  • Support machine installations and customer startup activities.

  • Review customer prints and determine the appropriate machining process.

  • Run customer parts for prove-outs, demonstrations, first-article runs, and time studies.

  • Develop machining processes and recommend appropriate tooling, equipment, and accessories.

  • Troubleshoot CNC programming, setup, tooling, and machining-process issues.

  • Train customers and operators on machine setup, programming, and operation.

  • Conduct technical demonstrations at the company's facility and customer locations.

  • Provide technical support by phone and in person.

  • Assist sales representatives and dealers with technical evaluations and customer applications.

  • Travel to customer facilities for installations, training, demonstrations, and technical support.

Qualifications

  • Previous CNC machining, CNC programming, or applications engineering experience.

  • Experience working with Swiss-type CNC lathes is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to program, set up, and operate CNC machinery.

  • Knowledge of CNC controls, preferably FANUC or similar systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, part prints, schematics, and manufacturing drawings.

  • Understanding of metal-cutting processes, tooling, feeds, and speeds.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.

  • Comfortable training customers, operators, and technicians.

  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly.

  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Background

  • Experience with Swiss-style CNC machines.

  • Previous experience supporting machine installations or customer training.

  • Experience conducting part prove-outs, time studies, or machining demonstrations.

  • Background working for a machine tool manufacturer, distributor, dealer, or precision machine shop.

  • Experience supporting customers in medical device, aerospace, automotive, or other precision-manufacturing industries.
