Position Summary
The Bulk Engineer/Process Engineer II is responsible for the scale-up development, planning, and execution of industrial-scale formulations and filling trials to support the seamless transition of new cosmetic products from development through manufacturing.
This role identifies and resolves development and manufacturing challenges through investigation, observation, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration. The Process Engineer II works closely with R&D and Manufacturing to ensure new products are successfully transferred to production while maintaining quality, safety, regulatory, and operational standards.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
Manufacturing Process Development
Independently plan and execute industrial-scale formulation, pilot, filling, and assembly trials for new cosmetic products.
Support the transition of new products from R&D and development into full-scale manufacturing.
Provide effective communication and coordination between R&D and Manufacturing teams throughout the product introduction process.
Participate in all aspects of New Product Introduction, including experimental design, trial execution, physical testing, quantitative analysis, and interpretation of results.
Develop and implement manufacturing solutions to improve process performance, efficiency, and reliability.
Evaluate manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement.
Process Investigation & Problem Solving
Investigate and resolve new and existing manufacturing issues using structured problem-solving, observation, and data analysis.
Quickly develop the knowledge necessary to create and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) to address processing challenges.
Analyze process data and develop recommendations based on quantitative findings.
Investigate out-of-specification manufacturing non-conformances as needed.
Develop and implement effective corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA) to address manufacturing issues.
Support troubleshooting activities during scale-up, filling, and production trials.
cGMP & Compliance
Work confidently within a cGMP manufacturing environment while maintaining a strong understanding of applicable regulations, standards, and procedures.
Ensure assigned activities comply with company quality and manufacturing requirements.
Maintain compliance with company standards related to manufacturing and laboratory safety.
Support general maintenance and proper operation of assigned work areas and equipment.
Ensure trials, testing, documentation, and manufacturing activities are conducted according to established procedures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate closely with Project Management, Quality Assurance, R&D Laboratory, Manufacturing Operations, Packaging, and other global functions.
Communicate technical findings, project timelines, trial results, and recommendations clearly to cross-functional teams.
Work with R&D Formulation Chemists and Manufacturing teams to resolve technical and processing challenges.
Interface with external clients and suppliers as needed.
Support successful communication and knowledge transfer between product development and manufacturing teams.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience: Minimum 4 years of experience in a science-related industry, preferably cosmetics, personal care, or consumer products within a cGMP manufacturing environment.
Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of chemical processing concepts, including heat transfer, mass flow, formulation processing, instrumental analysis, statistical analysis, and their application to personal care products.
Core Skills: Exceptional communication, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical data and timelines across cross-functional teams; proficiency with Microsoft Office.
