Description

POSITION SNAPSHOT: Our client in the Greater Boston Area is seeking to add an Application Engineer to their team. This role is focused on supporting the development, validation, and optimization of advanced manufacturing applications within a next-generation production platform. The Applications Engineer serves as a hands-on technical contributor responsible for evaluating product designs, preparing and modifying 3D models, conducting print and manufacturing trials, and documenting results to improve product quality, repeatability, and process performance. The position requires close collaboration with engineering teams and customers to develop practical application solutions, support prototype and validation builds, and contribute to projects spanning industrial, medical, automotive, consumer, and other product sectors. Candidates should be comfortable working in both digital design environments and physical manufacturing settings, with an interest in experimentation, process improvement, and advanced production technologies.

Top candidates will possess a bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, Materials Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, along with approximately 2-3 years of relevant professional experience. (Client may consider recent graduates with extensive internship experience in similar role). Strong proficiency in CAD and computational design tools, particularly Rhino, Grasshopper, or similar modeling platforms, is highly valued. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience developing, building, and testing physical prototypes, an understanding of design for manufacturing principles, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, dimensions, and technical specifications. Equally important are strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, disciplined documentation practices, and the ability to communicate effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.

The most competitive applicants will bring additional experience in additive manufacturing, industrial 3D printing, CNC machinery, robotics, automated manufacturing systems, or related advanced production technologies. Exposure to flexible materials such as silicones, rubbers, polymers, and elastomers is particularly advantageous, as is familiarity with parametric modeling, computational design methodologies, design of experiments, structured testing protocols, dimensional inspection, and mechanical testing. Success in the role will be measured by the quality and repeatability of manufacturing trials, accuracy of design and production files, adherence to established procedures, thorough technical documentation, efficient project execution, and the ability to consistently reproduce validated manufacturing processes while minimizing setup and production errors.
