We are hiring a Third Engineer to operate and monitor high pressure steam boilers, cogeneration, process cooling, compressed air, and wastewater treatment systems in a 24/7 plant. A Massachusetts Third Class Engineer License is required, and you will need a Grade 3M or higher. The schedule is a rotating 12-hour shift, either 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with a repeating pattern that builds in eight hours of guaranteed overtime every other week and includes weekends and holidays. Candidates must be open to days or nights. This opening is expected to be nights, with training on days for the first 6-12 months.
Key Responsibilities
Operate, monitor, and inspect boilers, generators, air compressors, cooling and water treatment systems, and auxiliary equipment to catch malfunctions and keep operation safe and efficient
Maintain daily logs of operating, maintenance, and safety activity, including test results and instrument readings, to demonstrate regulatory compliance
Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal air quality, water quality, and safety regulations
Control boiler water levels, combustion air, and fuel flow to burners
Test water quality and take corrective action for steam, process cooling, and wastewater systems
Interpret gauges, meters, and charts to confirm operation within normal parameters
Troubleshoot problems and adjust controls and valves to keep systems running reliably
Isolate equipment mechanically and electrically using Lock Out Tag Out for safe inspection and repair
Keep the Chief Engineer informed of operating conditions and complete safety and equipment audits as assigned
Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
Massachusetts Third Class Engineer License, required
Three or more years of experience with high pressure boilers and related equipment
Availability for rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
Strong operation monitoring, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills
Comfort with computers, test equipment, and hand tools
Ability to walk the facility for a full shift, work in confined spaces, climb boilers and towers, and lift, push, and pull heavy equipment
GMP or food grade manufacturing experience, preferred
