The Sinclair Advanced Manufacturing and Systems Engineering Department is seeking a full-time, Machining and Welding tenure-track faculty member to join its STEM Division beginning Fall 2026. This program provides the needed essential, current, and hands-on based technological skills necessary to thrive in today's manufacturing world. The curriculum provides leading-edge technology in the focus areas of machining, tool design, jig and fixture design, CNC programming, and Welding (MIG, TIG, STICK) applications.

This tenure track role typically requires at least a 40-hour work week which includes a course load of 15 credit hours per semester, and a minimum of five office hours per week. In addition to these responsibilities, the instructor will be expected to perform related duties such as serving on department and college committees, coordinating courses, serving as an ambassador for the Advanced Manufacturing & Systems Engineering Technology programs, and mentoring adjunct faculty. Teaching assignments may include day and evening assignments on the Dayton, Centerville, and Mason campuses. Additionally, assignments may include day assignments at area high schools. The position reports to the Advanced Manufacturing & Systems Technology (AM&SE) Department Chair.

All full-time faculty salaries are determined by the Provost's Office and are commensurate with education and experience.

Principal Accountabilities

Satisfactory performance of the Four Critical Performance areas required for all full-time faculty:

  • Teaching, Learning, and Student Development: Participate in the continuing development and implementation of the department's curriculum through teaching that reflects a strong commitment to fostering student success. Through in-class and out-of-class initiatives, actively seek to advance the development of individual students and their capacity to meet their educational goals.
  • Scholarship and Professional Growth: Maintain and seek to improve currency and competence in the discipline and as a teacher.
  • Curriculum Design, Assessment, and Evaluation: In collaboration with colleagues, actively contribute to the continuous review and revision of the department's curriculum. Must exhibit advanced computer proficiency, alongside the capability and time-management skills required for the effective development and revision of face-to-face and online courses. Implement evaluations according to established standards and use assessment data to continuously improve teaching and learning.
  • Workplace and Community Service: Contribute to the operation and advancement of the college through committee service and other activities. Extend professional expertise to the community served by the college.

  • Teaching a minimum of 30 semester hours annually during the academic year

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred

  • Candidates without a master's degree will be required to obtain one within a specified time

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in set-up and operation of basic machining and welding equipment required

  • Ability to demonstrate operation of basic machine shop equipment and welding equipment (live or in video demonstration) required

  • Experience with G and M code programming preferred

  • 4 & 5 axis machining experience preferred

  • AutoCAD and MasterCam (or other CAD-CAM software) experience desirable

  • Experience with ProtoTRAK controls and operations preferred

  • Experience with programming, set-up and operation of vertical machining centers and turning centers preferred

  • Ability to teach applied shop related math courses which include application of algebra, geometry, trigonometry in machine lab and welding applications

  • Ability to effectively communicate and demonstrate basic machine shop and welding practices to students.

  • Familiar with safety procedures in a machine lab and welding environment

  • Must be able to work with a diverse group of team members

  • Willing to represent Sinclair at college/career fairs, etc. Help recruit students into the program.

  • Willing and able to work flexible hours (day and evening sections)

  • Able to utilize and incorporate technology in the classroom

  • Able to assist with curriculum development

  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the course and program level, including ability to teach in a student-centered active learning model

  • Active business and industry engagement in the region served by Sinclair Community College preferred

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work successfully in a community college environment
