Job Description

The Housing and Community Development Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all Raleigh residents by creating stronger neighborhoods and expanding access to safe, affordable housing. Through innovative programs and community partnerships, the department invests in affordable housing initiatives, supports services for low- to moderate-income residents, enforces housing standards, and leads neighborhood revitalization and community engagement efforts throughout the city.

As a Community Development Administrative Technician, you will play an essential role in supporting the departments mission by providing high-quality administrative, operational, and customer service support. In this position, youll help ensure the efficient delivery of programs and services while serving as a key resource for staff, residents, and community partners.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Provides administrative support across core operational areas, including front desk coverage, resident inquiries, mail distribution, and delivery coordination
  • Responds to internal and external customer inquiries by providing information, conducting basic research, routing requests to the appropriate staff, and taking or delivering messages
  • Prepares professional documents for internal and external audiences, including public notices, correspondence, memoranda, reports, and forms
  • Manages departmental communications by maintaining the department HUB site, organizational chart, contract lists, and internal newsletter
  • Creates, edits, and maintains correspondence, presentations, spreadsheets, charts, graphs, meeting notices, and other business documents
  • Maintains records in accordance with established retention policies by scanning, organizing, filing, and retrieving documents
  • Assists with responding to public records requests
  • Processes a variety of financial and administrative transactions, including requisitions, purchase orders, invoice vouchers, travel authorizations, expense reimbursements, check pickups, and deposits
  • Supports procurement activities by processing contracts, amendments, change orders, bids, solicitations, and public advertisements through the City's financial management system, as well as local publications
  • Assists with human resources functions, including job postings, applicant notifications, interview scheduling, and onboarding coordination
  • Maintains off-site record storage files and related accounts
  • Serves as the department's primary point of contact for building maintenance and facility-related requests
  • Monitors office supply inventory and equipment needs; initiates requests for supplies and equipment maintenance while maintaining an organized work environment
  • Coordinates meeting logistics, including scheduling, room setup, materials, preparation, calendars, agendas, and travel arrangement
  • Prepares and routes documents for internal and external signatures, monitor completion, and ensure timely return to responsible parties
  • Provides backup support for the Administrative Support Supervisor and Fiscal Analyst as needed
  • Performs additional administrative and clerical duties as assigned to support efficient department operations

Typical Qualifications

Education & Experience

High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; less than 1-year experience in clerical support, data entry, customer service, or related field;

OR

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted

Work Environment and Physical Effort:

Work Environment:

Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment. Employees will occasionally work in an outdoor environment.
