About this Job

Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) is one of five campuses within the Historically Black Southern University System. The University serves approximately 3,180 undergraduate students and employs 413 full- and part-time staff, including 175 faculty members. SUSLA offers 33 undergraduate degree programs and awards about 350 degrees annually.

The main campus, located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, spans more than 100 acres with 11 buildings. Additional instructional sites include the Downtown Metro Center for allied health programs and the Aerospace Technology Center at the Shreveport Downtown Airport, which houses FAA-approved aerospace technology and maintenance programs.

The SUSLA Business, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (BSTEM) Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Administrative Assistant 4. This role provides advanced administrative and secretarial support to a professional, supervisor, or manager. Responsibilities may also include highly skilled keyboarding, transcription, and document preparation. Employees perform duties with a high level of independence and exercise sound judgment when handling non-routine situations.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in administrative services.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Interacts with students and faculty, assisting as necessary to resolve issues, answer questions, make referrals, contacting Admissions, Registrarss office and other offices for support.
  • Maintains college personnel and budget records, including request for leave, sabbaticals, and promotions.
  • Interacts with the general public (in person, telephone and email) screening and prioritizing them for appropriate responses.
  • Maintains student graduation checkout notebook and files for every semester.
  • Prepares requisitions, payroll, and various authorizations for faculty.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Compiles and types special reports by selecting relevant information from a variety of sources, such as reports, documents, correspondence and electronic files.
  • Prepares materials needed for meetings such as agendas, handouts and binders.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 8AM-6PM, Friday 8AM-12PM (current summer hours, subject to change Fall 2026)
