Position: Accounting ManagerStatus: Full time, permanentLocation: Ohio History Center, Columbus OHSalary: $70,000-85,000 per yearBenefits: Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, retirement pension, paid time off and holidays Summary:The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the accounting team and overseeing daily financial operations to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for the organization. This role supports the Chief Financial Officer by maintaining financial systems, ensuring GAAP and regulatory compliance, coordinating budget inputs, and managing key accounting functions including audit support, payroll review, and financial reporting. Essential Functions:Accounting Operations & Team ManagementManage and supervise the accounting team, including workflow oversight, training, and performance feedbackCoordinate daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, and commissions/funds/grant accountingFoster a collaborative team environment aligned with the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core ValuesFinancial Reporting & SystemsPrepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statementsMaintain the integrity of the general ledger and overall financial system structureEnsure accurate account reconciliations and oversee completion of monthly close processesCoordinate and lead monthly "Blackbook" meetings and review account reconciliationsBudgeting & Financial Planning SupportCoordinate the input and maintenance of budget data within financial systemsAssist leadership and department managers with budget tracking and reportingCompliance & ControlsEnsure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, and organizational policiesMaintain and improve financial policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)Support development and monitoring of internal controlsAudit & Regulatory ReportingSupport the preparation of annual audited financial statementsCoordinate and assist with the annual audit process and Form 990 reportingEnsure appropriate documentation and audit readiness throughout the yearCash, Disbursements & BankingReview and approve accounts payable disbursements and bi-weekly payrollSupport payroll processing and OPERS reporting requirementsManage relationships with banking partners, including merchant servicesSpecialized Accounting AreasOversee foundation accounting, including tracking and reporting of restricted and unrestricted fundsEnsure proper cost allocation and fund accounting practices where applicableLeadership Support & Continuous ImprovementProvide financial reporting and analysis to the Chief Financial Officer and leadership teamIdentify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracyMaintain current knowledge of accounting standards, regulations, and best practices Required Education & Experience:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field5–7 years of progressive accounting experiencePrior experience supervising accounting staff required Desired Skills & Experience:Experience in nonprofit and/or fund accounting environmentsStrong understanding of financial systems and structure managementExperience supporting audits and regulatory filings (including Form 990)Knowledge of payroll processes and public retirement systems (e.g., OPERS)Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsProficiency with Microsoft 365 and accounting/ERP systems Required Competencies:Strong working knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance requirementsAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with accuracyEffective communication skills for working with staff and leadershipDetail-oriented with strong organizational and reconciliation skillsProactive approach to process improvement and issue resolutionSound judgment in financial review, approvals, and operational decisions Application Instructions: Submit Resume/CV and professional cover letter through Ohio History Connection careers website: https://www.applicantpro.com/openings/ohiohistory/jobs.
