The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with GAAP, WUFAR, GASB, and other applicable regulations. This position manages daily accounting functions, supports budgeting and audit activities, maintains internal controls, and assists with district financial reporting requirements. The Accountant works collaboratively with staff, auditors, vendors, and families while maintaining confidentiality and supporting the overall financial health of the District.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including data entry of journal entries, and accounts receivable.

  • Perform bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data.

  • Prepare financial reports such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

  • Utilize accounting software to maintain accurate records.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and governmental accounting regulations where applicable.

  • Conduct account analysis to identify discrepancies or irregularities in financial data.

  • Support budgeting processes and provide insights for financial planning.

  • Maintain organized documentation of all financial transactions for audit purposes.

  • Collaborate with auditors during audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

  • Manage scholarship awards by tracking in collaboration with alumni.

  • Maintain school automobile insurance.

  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and organizational information.

  • Provide timely, clear communication with staff, vendors, and families regarding financial matters.

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles, preferably within non-profit sectors.

  • Process district travel per diem requests and arrangements.

  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and spreadsheets.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, journal entries, debits & credits, and general ledger accounting.

  • Ensures District accounting procedures comply with Federal, State, and Local requirements including the Wisconsin Uniform Code of Financial Accounting (WUFAR), and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Maintains the District's General Ledger and Balance Sheet through proper posting of expenditures, revenues, and journal entries.

  • Track and reconcile district asset and liability accounts.

  • Ensures DPI compliance measures and reporting.

  • Internal controls according to GASB compliance standards.

  • Maintains and follows internal procedures for auditors; assists with the annual financial audit and monitors internal control compliance.

  • Experience with bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, account analysis, and financial report writing.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
