The College of Computing & Informatics (CCI) Advising Center was created to serve Computer Science majors exploring the different concentrations and departments in CCI. The CCI Advising Center consists of the Director of Advising and multiple professional advisors. All advisors are responsible for assisting students in academic exploration, registration, and negotiating academic policies and resources.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Academic Advisor in the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) provides advising services for undergraduate Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Sports Analytics majors, minors, and students in transition (internal or external transfers). The advisor also serves as a resource for CCI faculty, staff, and students regarding academic policies.

Summary of Position Responsibilities

The Academic Advisor in the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) will assume advising responsibilities for any University students declaring or expressing an interest in College of Computing and Informatics majors. The advisor must be able to work autonomously in a complex, team-oriented academic office with a significant advising caseload. The advisor must be committed to student success and able to listen to and analyze academic needs. The advisor must also relate well to faculty and staff and provide support to them as requested.

While not required to teach, Academic Advisors in CCI may be requested to coordinate and/or participate in seminars offered each year to students. In addition, the advisor fulfills other responsibilities as needed and assigned by the Director of CCI Advising.

  • Targeted advising

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Masters Degree required or obtained before start date.
  • At least 2 years' experience in a higher education setting is required.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education or Counseling preferred.
  • Two years of direct student advising experience preferred.
