The primary purpose of academic advising at the university is to provide students with the support needed to navigate their academic experience from first enrollment to graduation successfully.

This position is committed to engaging students in personal development and self-assessment, teaching them how to manage their academic success effectively, and supporting them through the exploration of their major and career development plans. Students are expected to develop plans consistent with their interests, abilities, and aspirations and to utilize available resources to achieve their long-term goals. This individual ensures that students have access to accurate and relevant information so that they can take initiative and responsibility for their success. This individual upholds the expectations and standards of advising at Charlotte professionally and respectfully, which reflects an appreciation for all students.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Academic Advisor will assume advising responsibilities for any assigned student wherein the role is placed at UNC Charlotte. This individual will also be responsible for supporting students declaring or expressing interest in the assigned College/School. The advisor must have the ability to work autonomously in a complex, team-oriented academic office while also building strong alliances with faculty and other campus partners that support the holistic development of students. The advisor must have a commitment to student success and the ability to listen and analyze academic needs.
The Academic Advisor will also be engaged in other activities that support the orientation, onboarding, and consistent communication to UNC Charlotte students. These activities might include teaching and seminar facilitation, event participation, coordinated messaging, and other duties as assigned.

Belk College of Business (3 positions available) is dedicated to helping undergraduate students discover, plan, and achieve their academic and career goals while becoming 21st-century global business leaders. The Niblock Student Center Academic and Career Coach will advise and counsel undergraduate business students through self-assessment, career exploration, major selection, and in their progress toward degree completion in the Belk College of Business. This individual will also direct students to academic support and other campus resources, provide group presentations and workshops, proactively use campus advising systems as the basis for interventions with students, maintain notes and records on advising interactions, participate in recruitment and orientation events, and implement and administer University and Belk College of Business policies. It is preferred that the candidate have a degree or relevant work experience in higher education and/or business.
College of Science (1 position available) began in September 2023 when the former College of Liberal Arts and Sciences split into two colleges: the College of Science and the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences. This college is a community of faculty, staff, and students that is shaping the future. Science is at the heart of everything we do: inclusive teaching and mentoring, innovative research, engagement with the Charlotte region, leadership in professional organizations, entrepreneurship, and developing the leaders of tomorrow. The individual in this role will be involved with establishing critical advising services offered by this new college. Therefore, preference will be given to candidates who have experience in at least one of the science disciplines within the college - Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics, and/or Physics, or in other related areas of science.

College of Health & Human Services (2 positions available) (CHHS) provides the highest quality educational experiences, engages in relevant research from bench to bedside, and acts as a primary partner in addressing community health and human services needs. The CHHS Advising Center serves pre-majors and minor undergraduate students within the college's academic programs. Academic Advisors help students develop the knowledge, skills, and personal accountability needed to explore their academic and co-curricular options, evaluate and track their own progress toward upper-level admission and graduation, access support and enrichment services, and understand and follow university policies and timelines. Advisors collaborate with faculty in CHHS to provide services and programming to students. While not required, it is helpful to have candidates with prior work in a relevant health or human services field and/or relevant higher education experience within these majors.
