The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse -Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Lead Hospital Medicine physician and in association with members of the Hospitalist team in the evaluation, treatment and care coordination of the hospitalized patient in the provider role.

The major area of responsibility is addressing patient clinical issues while in the Clinical Decision Unit (Observation Unit) which includes admission of patients from the emergency room or direct admissions, unit floor calls, and discharge coordination.
