This position rooms patients, prepares them for appointments, and performs back-office clinical duties such as collecting baseline data, including vital signs, maintaining accurate clinical records, and helping manage provider caseloads. Under the direct supervision of the Behavioral Health Coordinator and the general oversight of a psychiatric provider, the PCMA works closely with the care team to deliver team-based, patient-centered care in accordance with best practices and NATIVE HEALTH (NH) policies.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for long periods of time, is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb steps/stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; smell; manage stress as it relates to essential job functions. Duties include but are not limited to: assisting providers during preparation and provision of patient visit, interviewing patient and obtaining reason for visit, room preparation, specimen collection and processing, medication administration, documentation in electronic health record and patient discharge.

Using a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and patient-centered approach, the Medical Assistant supports quality patient outcomes, promotes continuity of care, and contributes to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services across primary care, behavioral health, psychiatry, addiction medicine, and other clinical service lines. Under the supervision of a licensed provider, the Medical Assistant assists with patient intake, vital signs, specimen collection, medication administration, documentation, care coordination, patient education, and other clinical support functions necessary to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

Active Medical Assistant certification such as: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) and proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) and proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT). Provides outstanding customer service and ensures a smooth patient flow process by providing services in admissions, financial counseling, billing, scheduling patients, paperwork completion, explanation of procedures, making of appointments, and conducts registration.

Active Medical Assistant certification such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT), or per State regulations. Duties include but are not limited to, rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set-up, injection prep, and accurate data entry into EMR.

Consistent with Medical Assistant education and under the direction of a licensed health care professional, the Certified Medical Assistant performs the following clinical responsibilities including but not limited to: a) Measures and records vital signs, growth parameters, medical histories, and signs and symptoms into the electronic health record.
