Essential Job Functions Typical Tasks Leads and participates in the work of staff in managing projects including directing small to large network projects; Trains customers, staff, and others as needed in a formal setting, in a group, or one-on-one; Coordinates, configures, installs, and maintains local area, wide area, and wireless networks; Measures volume and performance of network traffic; Analyzes network problems and implements solutions; Monitors network operations and configurations to identify opportunities to improve network performance; Reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures, and identifies and resolves problems; Develops and implements system improvements to enhance operating efficiencies; Identifies equipment requirements and develops specifications for enterprise network designs; Installs, maintains, and upgrades control program software for routers, bridges, switches, firewalls and other network equipment; Recommends and installs additional and replacement routers, bridges, switches, firewalls, and other network equipment; Documents installation and configuration procedures; Communicates project status, resolving project issues, problems, and changes and prepares project status reports; Manages projects using VTA personnel, consultants, and vendors, as needed; May be required to monitor project expenditures and purchase equipment, recommending adjustments as necessary; Ensures that network projects are completed and meet the required objectives; Monitors and validates the security of VTA networks and combats security intrusions; Coordinates with vendors, consultants, and VTA staff as needed; Maintains technical and functional competency in the applications utilized by the assigned department; Performs related duties as required.
