They must be able to recruit student-athletes, which requires phone calls and traveling off-campus, and evaluating written, oral and digital information from prospective student-athletes, and interact with outside interests in the form of DePauw alumni, high school coaches, club team coaches, and parents during the recruitment of student athletes. During the playing and practice season (generally 18 - 30 weeks in a 52 week period), when this individual’s primary responsibility is coaching a sport, the coach will stand/walk/sit for 3-6 hours per day at practice, perform office tasks (meet with student-athletes and colleagues and respond to correspondence), and on the phone and computer (primarily recruiting).
