Position Description Support youth sports programs such as NFL Flag Football, Jr. NBA Basketball, and Track & Field. Responsibilities include setting up, facilitating and supervising games, recording statistics, and communicating with parents and coaches.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists Athletic Coordinators in all aspects of NFL Flag Football, Jr. NBA Basketball, and Track & Field programs
  • Assists with delivering outreach sports to multiple neighborhood parks, community center and partners
  • Sets up and tears down program areas
  • Keeps time and score at NFL Flag Football and Jr. NBA Basketball Games
  • Records statistics at sporting events, record attendance and progress of participants
  • Assists with supervising youth in programming (NFL Flag Football, Jr. NBA Basketball, Track & Field)
  • Communicates with parents and coaches regularly, answering inquires related to Youth Sports programming
  • Utilize the Rockford Park Districts HRIS system for all HR and payroll-related requirements and to accurately clock in and out for all shifts
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Prior referee experience a plus
  • Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends
  • Good organizational and leadership skills for daily supervision and direction of participants
  • Have a working technical knowledge of football, basketball, track & field, and tennis
  • Ability to communicate well with parents, participants, and coaches
  • Ability to problem solve in a variety of situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and demonstrate flexibility as a team player
  • Ability to work in stressful conditions, including situations involving disability related needs and dissatisfied customers
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED training (can be obtained through the Rockford Park District)
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Medium work: Exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally
  • Exerting in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently
  • Exerting in excess of 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Must be able to perform moderately physically intensive tasks, potentially including any combination of the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, repetitive motions, substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • This is a physically active position that involves stamina.
  • Mobility to various locations.
  • Work Environment:
  • This position is primarily stationed outdoors; regular exposure to dirt, noise, and temperature and weather extremes.
  • Exposure to outdoor elements, weather, hazardous vegetation, insect bites, etc.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions, and problem solve.
  • This position requires the employee to be standing a majority of the shift.
