Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine is seeking motivated and enthusiastic Program Assistants to support our youth programs. We are currently hiring for two separate opportunities:
Summer Club Program Assistant (mid-June through mid-August)
School Year Program Assistant (Monday-Friday, approximately 2:30-6:30 p.m.; part-time, approximately 20 hours per week)
Both positions play a vital role in providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for members in grades K-5.
The ideal candidate is passionate about youth development and eager to contribute to our mission of inspiring and enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as responsible, productive, and caring citizens. Successful candidates thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
Facilitate engaging, educational, and recreational activities in our key impact areas, including STEM, Art, Leadership, Academics, Health & Wellness, Gym, and Games Room.
Assist in the delivery of youth programs while following established curriculum and activity guidelines.
Build positive relationships with members, encouraging participation and fostering a strong sense of belonging.
Supervise member behavior and implement positive behavior management strategies.
Ensure a safe environment by following all Club safety policies and procedures.
Collaborate with fellow staff to evaluate programs and contribute ideas for improvement.
Assist in other program areas as needed to support daily operations, special events, and staff coverage.
Track attendance and other program data as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, social work, recreation, or a related field preferred.
Experience working with youth in a recreational, educational, or community setting preferred.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle challenging situations with patience and professionalism.
Patience, empathy, and understanding when working with youth from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license and excellent driving record, preferred.
BHPs and Ed Techs are encouraged to apply.
Physical Reqirements
Ability to actively participate in youth programming and remain standing or sitting for extended periods throughout the day.
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting at $17.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
