Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Workday Payroll, Absence and Time Tracking Functional Analyst to own and support the end-to-end time-to-pay process. This role will configure and improve Workday Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking, develop reporting and controls, troubleshoot complex calculation and data issues, and coordinate related integrations. The ideal candidate is comfortable taking independent ownership from requirements and solution design through configuration, testing, deployment, training, and production support.
Workday Payroll
- Configure and maintain payroll earnings, deductions, pay components, calculation rules, eligibility, payroll inputs, pay groups, period schedules, run categories, and related business processes.
- Investigate gross-to-net calculation issues, retroactive changes, effective-date conflicts, proration, deduction behavior, arrears, and differences between expected and actual payroll results.
- Support regular, off-cycle, adjustment, bonus, commission, termination, and other approved payroll scenarios from a systems perspective.
- Develop and maintain pre-payroll audits, exception reporting, reconciliation controls, costing dependencies, accounting outputs, and downstream finance interfaces.
- Support quarter-end and year-end system readiness, vendor updates, reporting validation, and testing.
Time Tracking and Absence
- Configure and maintain time-entry codes, templates, eligibility, time calculations, validations, schedules, and approval processes.
- Translate approved overtime, premium pay, shift differential, meal and break, holiday, and other time policies into tested configuration.
- Troubleshoot time-entry availability, eligibility, calculation results, approval routing, timekeeper visibility, and downstream payroll impacts.
- Configure and maintain time-off and leave plans, eligibility, accruals, balances, carryover, limits, waiting periods, validations, and related business processes.
- Investigate balance discrepancies, accrual timing, eligibility changes, adjustments, carryover, negative balances, cancellations, and leave-related impacts on time and pay.
Reporting, Integrations, and Data
- Build advanced reports, calculated fields, dashboards, audit reports, and exception reporting for Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking.
- Own functional requirements, mappings, eligibility, effective-date handling, control totals, and acceptance testing for assigned payroll, time, absence, banking, benefits, tax-service, and finance interfaces.
- Monitor integration events and investigate rejected transactions, missing records, duplicate results, and timing differences before payroll deadlines.
- Prepare and execute controlled EIB and supported mass data changes, validating templates, identifiers, dates, totals, errors, and post-load results.
- Support acquisitions, new entities, pay groups, plan changes, conversions, and migrations through assessment, configuration, testing, cutover, and stabilization.
Production Support and Change Delivery
- Own intake, triage, research, resolution, and closure of Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking cases.
- Distinguish configuration, data, security, integration, policy, and user-knowledge issues and drive root-cause resolution.
- Lead requirements discovery, evaluate design options, document solutions, coordinate testing, and support controlled deployments.
- Partner with internal technical resources and external specialists for advanced integration or development needs while retaining functional ownership.
- Lead user training, demonstrations, workshops, and creation of practical process documentation and job aids.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and practical experience.
- At least five years of relevant payroll systems or HRIS experience, including at least three years of hands-on Workday configuration and production support with independent delivery responsibility.
- Strong hands-on Workday Payroll configuration experience and hands-on configuration experience in Absence or Time Tracking, with demonstrated understanding across all three domains.
- Strong understanding of payroll processing dependencies, earnings and deductions, retroactive changes, effective dates, time calculations, absence accruals, reconciliations, and controls.
- Relevant hands-on United States Workday Payroll experience.
- Ability to build advanced reports and calculated fields, execute controlled EIB loads, troubleshoot integrations and calculation discrepancies, and test the complete time-to-pay process.
- Experience translating approved policy into configuration, coordinating user acceptance testing, and handling payroll-critical production issues.
- Strong communication, ownership, prioritization, confidentiality, and judgment under processing deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on configuration depth across Workday Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking.
- Experience supporting complex, multi-entity payroll populations, multiple pay frequencies, and distributed or hourly workforces.
- Workday Pro credentials or relevant Workday training in Payroll, Absence, or Time Tracking; payroll professional credentials are also beneficial.
- Experience with external time-clock solutions, acquisitions, parallel payroll testing, complex plan conversions, tax and banking interfaces, payroll accounting, labor costing, year-end readiness, vendor management, and audit documentation.
