    Description

    The head coach of softball leads and manages the program for grades K-12 and reports directly to the athletic director. 

    This position partners with the head coach of baseball to create an atmosphere of excellence for athletes in both programs at Harding Academy. 

    Key Responsibilities 

    Spiritual and Cultural Leadership 

    • Demonstrates a life committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ Commits to discipleship as the highest calling of a Christian coach • Supports and embodies the mission and vision of Harding Academy and the athletic department • Coaches within the InSideOut Initiative, placing character and purpose at the center of competition • Serves as a transformational leader for all students, families, and community members • Teaches values, character, and life lessons beyond athletics • Displays positivity and encouragement when interacting with athletes, parents, officials, and opponents

    Program and Player Development 

    Instills in athletes a deep understanding of the fundamentals of the sport Inspires a spirit of competitiveness, toughness, humility, and accountability Leads a program that is competitive at the district and state levels Supports multi-sport participation and holistic athlete development Partners with the athletic trainer and strength & conditioning staff to promote year-round physical growth and injury prevention 

    Staff and Operational Oversight 

    • Collaborates with the athletic director to hire and mentor coaches at all levels • Builds a vertically aligned program that develops athletes and teams with a long-term vision in mind • Maintains clean, safe, and functional athletic facilities and equipment • Works with athletics and facilities staff to secure upgrades and ensure proper equipment is in place 

    Communication and Community Engagement

    • Builds strong relationships with teachers, coaches, administrators, families, and supporters • Supports all athletic programs at Harding Academy as a teammate and advocate • Maintains open, organized, and professional communication with athletes, families, and colleagues • Promotes the program as an ambassador of Harding's mission in the broader community 

    Compliance and Professional Growth

    • Abides by the policies outlined in the staff and athletic handbooks • Follows all TSSAA rules and league guidelines • Attends required TSSAA, district, and regional meetings • Maintains active coaching certifications and engages in regular professional development
