Treatment Solutions Sales Manager - Water & Wastewater
Greater Indianapolis, Indiana | Full-Time, Field-Based | Midwest & Southeast Territory | Base plus commission, with an initial commission guarantee
Build a dedicated treatment practice from the ground up.
Our client is a value-added wholesale distributor of water and wastewater infrastructure products serving municipal, commercial, industrial, and residential markets. The business is growing fast and is using its deep technical knowledge and reputation to launch a dedicated treatment division.
Its top-tier treatment technologies have historically been sold as part of a broader catalog. Now they are getting a dedicated growth strategy. As Treatment Solutions Sales Manager, you will own the end-to-end sales strategy across a five-state territory: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, and South Carolina. You inherit a strong company reputation, a category-leading manufacturer portfolio, and an established team that will open doors for you.
This is a true hunter role with a long sales cycle. You will build the playbook, educate consulting engineers, navigate municipal procurement, and run pilot studies. If you love solving technical problems alongside operators and engineers, rather than just quoting catalog items, this is your seat.
The technologies you will represent
- Micro-bubble aeration and circulation for lagoons, equalization basins, and pre-treatment, lowering BOD, TSS, ammonia, and sludge volume.
- Engineered, skid-mounted drinking water treatment systems for contaminant removal, including PFAS, arsenic, iron, manganese, and nitrate.
- Packaged wastewater treatment systems for BOD, ammonia, and nitrogen removal in decentralized and small-community applications.
What you will own
- Full-cycle technical sales: lead generation, discovery, system design with engineers and manufacturers, proposals, pricing, negotiation, and closing.
- Territory and market development: deep relationships with consulting engineers, public works directors, utility managers, industrial plant operators, state regulators, and contractors across the five states.
- Early-stage specifications: work with engineering firms early in capital planning to get technologies written into planning studies, preliminary engineering reports, and state approval language well ahead of bid day.
- Manufacturer relationships: product training, joint customer calls, project registrations, pricing support, and demand forecasting.
- Internal collaboration: support Account Managers on treatment opportunities in existing accounts, and train them to qualify and hand off leads.
- Post-sale execution: coordinate with service and operations through submittals, delivery, installation, startup, and operator training to protect long-term system performance.
What this job is not
This is not a catalog-quoting or account-maintenance seat. You are building a new practice, and the early months are about education, specifications, and pilots before the bookings follow.
What you need to have done
- 5-10 years of outside sales in water and wastewater treatment, engineered equipment, or related process and infrastructure systems.
- A proven record of consultative sales into municipal, industrial, or commercial markets.
- Technical fluency in water chemistry, process design, and treatment data, with the ability to translate complex specs for operators, boards, and city councils.
- Working knowledge of municipal procurement: capital planning, funding sources, design-bid-build, sole source, and cooperative purchasing.
- Based in the Greater Indianapolis area, and willing to travel up to 50% across the territory, including regular overnight travel.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or business, or equivalent technical industry experience.
What success looks like in 12 months
- Leading indicators: lunch and learns, technical presentations, pilot and demo installations, and specification wins with engineering firms across the territory.
- Pipeline growth: steady expansion of qualified opportunities, pilot placements, and proposals issued across municipal and industrial accounts.
- Revenue and margin: the shift from territory building to closed bookings and gross margin growth.
What it pays
- Competitive base salary plus commission, with an initial commission guarantee while you build the territory pipeline.
- Mileage and full business expense reimbursement.
- Multiple health plan options, plus dental, vision, and an HSA.
- Company-paid life and long-term disability insurance.
- 401(k) with a discretionary company match.
- Paid time off, paid holidays, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
