Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This position will be focused on providing exceptional care to patients in a telemetry setting, particularly those who are ED holds awaiting transfer to inpatient units.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Telemetry
• Average Bed Counts: 60 beds at one facility, 31 beds at another location
• Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 4 patients
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Primarily medical-surgical patients waiting for transfer, with a focus on telemetry patients.

Shift Details

• Shift Type: Nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirements: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Holiday Requirements: Must work 2 of 4 major holidays
• Floating Requirements: May float to med/surg, telemetry, overflow units, and other facilities as needed

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients in a telemetry setting, ensuring accurate monitoring and administration of cardiac drips as per physician’s orders.
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips, as there are no monitor technicians available on the unit.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Assist with patient care tasks as needed, including vitals, IV starts, and medication administration for patients in the emergency department.

Qualifications

• Minimum Experience: 2 years of recent experience in telemetry nursing, preferably within the past 6 months.
• Required Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of receiving an offer.
• Successful completion of a pass/fail simulation lab on the first day of orientation.

Additional Information

Nursing staff will primarily care for telemetry patients, with the expectation to titrate medications such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone as directed. Orientation will include 2 shifts in a med/surg/tele setting.

Uniform requirement is navy scrubs. Potential candidates who are interested should possess strong cardiac telemetry skills and be prepared to engage in diverse patient care responsibilities.
