Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Telemetry Registered Nurse to join our team. This position requires strong cardiac telemetry skills and the ability to manage patients in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for patient care and the capability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Telemetry
• Number of Beds: 91 (60 ED Beds, 31 ED Beds)
• Patient Ratios: 1 to 4
• Common Diagnoses: ED holds awaiting placement on a unit; primarily medical-surgical and telemetry patients.

Job Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage telemetry patients and perform assessments as needed.
• Read and interpret cardiac strips without the assistance of monitor technicians.
• Titrate cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone per physician orders.
• Participate in the care of ED patients, including vital signs, IV starts, and medication administration.
• Assist in providing care for patients from the ED waiting for a hospital bed.
• Float as needed to med/surg/tele/overflow units.

Shift Information

• Shift: Night shifts (self-scheduling)
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
• Holiday Requirement: Rotate with permanent staff

Qualifications

• Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a telemetry setting
• Required Certifications: ACLS and BLS Certification
• Must-Have Skills: Strong cardiac telemetry background with experience managing cardiac drips and decreasing dosages per physician orders.

Additional Information

Travelers will be required to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to starting. A pass/fail simulation lab will take place on the first day of orientation, where failing will result in dismissal for six months. There are no external monitors on the unit; thus, nurses must be capable of interpreting telemetry strips independently.

The designated scrub color for this position is navy blue.

Orientation

Orientation will consist of 2 shifts on med/surg/tele at the primary unit.
