Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown position requiring ACLS and prior cardiac telemetry experience on night shift.

Details

  • 30-bed Cardiac Stepdown unit on the 3rd floor of the main hospital building
  • Patient ratio of 5-6:1
  • Unit staffed with unit clerk on days, 2-3 PCTs day and night, nursing supervisor, and hospitalists
  • Uses Welch Allyn vitals monitors, Novameter glucose monitors, and Philips telemetry and MP2 monitors
  • Documents in Meditech (HCA version)
  • Medications managed via WOW carts with med drawers and Pyxis ES dispensing system
  • Night shift schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Scheduling requires working every other weekend (4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule)
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg areas including general MS, Ortho, PCU, and MS surgical with oncology unless skill mix is needed

Requirements

  • Active RN license (TN or compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Cardiac knowledge preferred
  • Knowledge of Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips required
  • Experience with chest tube management, wound vac management, and EKGs required
  • US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
  • One professional reference required

Additional Information

  • Perform bedside and hourly rounding with 5 P's checked, reporting patient needs to PCTs at shift start and throughout shift
  • Document telemetry application and acknowledge rhythm strips each shift, placing documentation in chart
  • No Pass Zone policy enforced for bed alarms, call lights, and IV alarms
  • Dress code: RN in navy scrubs, CNA/PCT in ceil blue scrub sets with optional jacket; solid-colored undershirts allowed (no graphics); no artificial or gel nails/polish permitted
  • Charge nurses on unit have 12 to 39 years of seniority on dayshift and 15+ years on nightshift
  • Facility promotes shared governance across units
  • No gaps in work history exceeding 90 days within the past 12 months
  • Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; local candidates not accepted
