Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Step-Down/PCU position requiring ACLS and NIHSS certification with 1+ years of specialty experience.

Details

  • Work in a 30-bed 3 West Cardiac Step-Down/Progressive Care Unit
  • Patient ratio of 5-6:1
  • Unit staffed with unit clerk on days, 2-3 PCTs day and night, nursing supervisor, and hospitalists
  • Uses Welch Allyn vitals monitors, Novameter glucose monitors, and Philips Telemetry/MP2 monitoring equipment
  • Documentation in Meditech-HCA version EMR
  • Medication administration via WOW carts with med drawers and Pyxis ES dispensing system
  • Day shift schedule from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Every other weekend required (4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule)
  • Floating to other Med/Surg areas including general MS, Ortho, PCU, and MS Surgical w/Oncology, rotated among staff unless skill mix is needed

Requirements

  • Active RN license (TN or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in cardiac step-down/PCU specialty
  • Cardiac knowledge preferred
  • Knowledge of Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips
  • Experience with chest tube management, wound vac management, and EKGs
  • No gaps in work history equaling 90+ days in the past 12 months
  • US SSN and DOB required for consideration (no Canadian SSN accepted)
  • One professional reference required

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include chest tube management, wound vac management, and ad lib EKGs
  • Documentation of telemetry application and rhythm strip acknowledgment required each shift
  • No Pass Zone policy enforced for bed alarms, call lights, and IV alarms
  • Bedside rounding and hourly rounding with 5 P's checks required
  • Dress code: RN in navy scrubs, CNA/PCT in ceil blue scrub set with optional jacket; solid-color undershirts permitted (no graphics); no artificial or gel nails/polish
