Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Oncology RN for a surgical oncology unit requiring 2 years of acute care experience and prior teaching hospital experience.

Details

• Inpatient surgical oncology unit within a teaching hospital and Trauma Level I facility caring for patients with abdominal and pelvic cancers (gynecologic, colorectal, pancreatic, liver, stomach)
• Unit provides post-operative surgical care to help patients meet discharge milestones; no chemotherapy or biotherapy administered
• 36 staffed beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:6 that may flex based on staffing and unit needs
• Rotating day and night shifts (3x12 hours), various days of the week, with weekend coverage per unit needs
• Floating required within scope, including to sister facilities based on facility needs
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

• Active CO or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years acute care experience required
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Trauma Level I hospital experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Comfortable working in environments with flexible nurse-to-patient staffing ratios
• Skilled in IV therapy, port access/management, central line care, and PICC line care
• Experience managing oncologic emergencies such as sepsis and anaphylaxis
• Experience with post-surgical care, wound care, ostomy care, and chest tube management

Additional Information

• Provide post-operative nursing care to surgical oncology patients, supporting recovery milestones and discharge planning
• Deliver symptom management for issues such as altered mental status, nausea/vomiting, and dysphagia
• Coordinate care and provide patient/family education and psychosocial support
• Navy scrub color required
• First-time travelers are accepted if they have teaching hospital experience
• Candidates previously employed by UCHealth or its affiliates within the past two years will not be considered
• Travelers who completed a full year on assignment with UCH OR must wait at least one year before rebooking
• Maximum of 10 RTO days approved per 13-week contract, with blackout periods during select weeks
• No blocked scheduling requests permitted
• Completion of facility-specific training modules required within the first week of assignment
